Mission Statement
Transportation is a word used all over the world. How people travel from point A to point B is a constantly growing field of technology. The goal of the Museum of Transportation is to enlighten people on the growth of technology and how it has affected art over time. We will explore in the depth different examples of transportation in art from ancient egyptian paintings to modern examples of transportation in art. The museum will also help to aluminate the role of technology in societies and the how the 'need for speed' grew throughout time.
Examples
This portrait, "Entrance to a Dutch Port" by Willem Van de Velde, is a fabulous example of artwork that will be shown throughout the museum. Painted in 1665 this example of baroque artwork depicts the importance of trade by ship during this time period. Although transportation by land was also utilized, during the Baroque and renaissance period trade, exploration, and pilgrimage became extremely popular. This painting reflects both the style during this period in art and also the main theme of this museum, transportation. Most of the paintings you will see include forms of transportation but not as a main focal point. Thats what i want to focus on, the idea that transportation is an underlying giant, constantly represented in daily life. Though it may be in the background it was the foundation for many peoples lives throughout the ages.
I wanted to show one other example of art work. This example of modern art, "Attack at Dawn" by Jacek Yerka done in 1989 is a fabulous depiction of imagination. I don't just want to focus on the solid realistic role transportation plays I also want to show how it can play a part in fanatical modern art. This painting proves that transportation is a key player in our society especially in our art. It isn't always in the background, a lot of the time it is the main depiction.
